The Return of Peter Rabbit! NEW 2019 coin released!
The BRAND NEW 2019 Peter Rabbit 50p has now been officially released!
In 2016 this mischievous little bunny re-inspired the nation to start checking their change.
And that’s because Beatrix Potter’s enchanting tales of countryside characters were brought to life on UK coinage with The Royal Mint’s introduction of the Beatrix Potter 50p series.
Likened to the 2012 Olympic 50p collecting sensation that gripped the nation, the release of these 50ps, including the very first UK Peter Rabbit coin, started a collecting frenzy across the UK.
And now this loveable little character has once again found his way out of Mr McGregor’s garden and onto a brand new UK 50p coin, for the fourth year running.
First issued to celebrate 150 years since the birth of the renowned Children’s author, Beatrix Potter, these 50p coins have been unprecedented in their popularity.
Thirteen coins have been issued since 2016, each featuring one of Potter’s delightful characters, from Flopsy Bunny to Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and even a special coin which includes elements celebrating Beatrix as the artist behind some of the best-loved characters in children’s literature.
The tale now continues with the 2019 Peter Rabbit 50p coin, featuring an original illustration of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter herself, carefully engraved by Royal Mint coin designer, Emma Noble.
The illustration has been taken from the book, ‘The Tales of Benjamin Bunny’ and shows Peter Rabbit wearing his blue jacket, which he daringly retrieved from Mr McGregor’s garden after losing it in ‘The Tales of Peter Rabbit’.
He can be seen clutching a handkerchief which was used to gather onions from the garden to take back for his aunt.
The coin won’t be entering circulation, but is available to purchase in Brilliant Uncirculated quality here >>
There is no doubt that this Peter Rabbit 50p coin will be as popular as the previous years, and I’m sure collectors won’t want to let this bouncy bunny slip through their fingers.

I have really got into saving coins and collecting for grand children now, but finding them at post office or change is much more fun for all the family rather then pushing a button to order them online because they are not coming out into circulation, as I collect 6 sets it is quite dear as well.
Having fun swapping alphabet 10p on change checker but again its a shame not more being circulated to find.
I wanted to come to Plymouth for your swap shop for Peter Rabbit but too far for me to come.
Hi Hazel,
Your grandchildren are very lucky. Which coins have you been able to find so far? You’re right, it is more fun to find the coins in your change, so it’s a shame some of the recent designs haven’t been released into circulation, although there are still over 100 different 50p and £2 designs out there to find, so don’t give up the hunt!
There are now 7.3 million A-Z 10ps in circulation, so let’s hope they start becoming easier to spot.
Keep up to date with our blog and monthly newsletter to find out where our next live swap event will be.
Thanks,
Rachel
Deliberate mistake? Surely Beatrix potter is 150 not 250 years
Good spot Steve, thanks!
Notice you have the new Peter coin listed, as too the Snowman and the Hawking. I happen to have a 2018 Newton to swap but cannot list it. Why do you not list all the coins ? , Change Checkers would love to know what other collectors own and are willing to swap. A friend of mine has the Blue Peter coin but he cannot include it on his on-line library in Change Checkers.
Hi Paul, we list coins we denomination and design rather than individual years. The 2018 Isaac Newton 50p was only available as a Strike Your Own coin, so isn’t listed on our app. The Blue Peter Olympic 50p is actually the Athletics design, which can be found here: https://www.changechecker.org/coin/67/olympic50p-Athletics.aspx and added to your collection or listed to swap. I hope that helps.
Hi Rachel. I understand the Blue Peter 50 pence coin is represented by the 2011 Athletics coin, however, the Blue Peter coin was actually dated 2009 so is therefore not the same.
When the competition winner was revealed, only 100,000 special edition Blue Peter coin packs were released with a 2009 dated coin. Unfortunately we only list the 2011 version of the coin as we list coins by denomination and design rather than date.
Think this is a disgrace. Yet another coin not being released into circulation and instead being sold for profit. Certainly isn’t going to encourage my grandkids to search their change. This is all contributing to a cashless society. Royal mint please stop being greedy and let the public have the joy of finding them in their change!!! Richard
Why is this another coin NOT to be released into circulation? It would be great to see them in our change. Also, are any more Julia Donaldson coins planned? Room on the Broom, Stick Man etc would make a fantastic set.
Hi Craig, the 2019 Peter Rabbit has been issued in brilliant uncirculated quality as a collector’s edition and will make for a special keepsake, but it is a shame that the coin won’t be entering circulation as it would be lovely to find it in our change. We haven’t heard of any other Julia Donaldson coins coming up, but that would make for a great series!
Not a another Beatrix Potter 50p after the said the 2018 were the last in the ser to be issued,
Looks like just a another money making effort by them!!!
Brilliant love the Peter Rabbit 50p Coins
