The wonderful world of Mr. Men and Little Miss – What we know so far…
The tales of Mr. Men and Little Miss have been delighting the nation for 50 years, establishing themselves as one of the country’s best-loved children’s literature series.
And excitingly for collectors, as of the latest Royal Proclamation, it has been confirmed that a brand new series of £5 coins is set to be issued celebrating the inhabitants of Dillydale.
Roger Hargreaves’ world-famous tales first originated in 1971, with Mr. Tickle. Since then we’ve seen over 70 characters appear in the books and films!
The designs of these coins remain top secret but if you’re anything like us, we’re so excited to see which characters feature in this series!

I share some of the concerns about a £5 set, especially as I mainly collect silver proofs! However, I will be really pleased to see my childhood favourites in bright colours and detail on any coins. Let’s face it we all need some colour, fun and smiles given our current predicament. Bring on Mr Men and Little Miss! ?
So glad you’re excited for the Mr Men and Little Miss coins Jane! We’re certainly excited too 🙂
I agree with most of the comments questioning the decision to put cartoon characters on the £5 crown. The A Z 10p coins seem to be a farce. There are not enough in circulation for genuine collectors to find. Using the 10p for for Mr Men could have been one way of getting collector interested again.
Hi Alex,
it’s great we get to see the Mr.Men and Little Miss on a series of coins but, from what I gather from Social Media’s, the general consensus is this would have been great as a big collection on 10p’s, something akin to the A-Z’s. It’s a shame. Do you know of any plans in the pipeline for any big sets (any denomination) for collectors to look forward to?
Regards,
Craig
Hi Craig,
Glad to hear you’re excited to see the Mr. Men and Little Miss characters on UK coins! It’s interesting that the £5 coin had been chosen for this series as this denomination is usually reserved for flagship royal or historical anniversaries.
At the moment, we’re aware of the following upcoming coins: https://www.changechecker.org/2020/10/21/exciting-upcoming-coin-releases/ but of course, as soon as we hear of any new and exciting coin series then we’ll update our blog for Change Checkers.
I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed!
Best,
Alex
i was hoping the mr men/little miss coins would be 10p coins featuring a character on each, i don’t really collect £5 coins.
how many will there be in total.
Hi Mike,
It’s interesting that the £5 coin has been chosen as the denomination for this series as these are usually reserved for flagship royal or historic anniversaries. We’re uncertain on how many coins will be issued in the complete series but as soon as we find out any more, we’ll update our blogs for Change Checkers.
Thanks,
Alex
Are these Mr Men and Little Miss £5 coins GB or territories please if territories which one? Thank you.
Hi there, these are GB coins produced by The Royal Mint 🙂
The £5 coin as always until last year been a coin that celebrated the Royal Family and Great Britians, with historical interest and respect. I don’t understand why you’d make a mockery of this by putting cartoon characters on it. Last year we had; Year of the Rat, 007 and Rock Stars which I felt were odd for a £5 coin, but Mr Men? That’s just ridiculous. You’d expect those to be on 50p or 10p coins with The Potter collection and Winnie the Pooh.
I have every £5, £2, £1, 50p and 10p plus pre decimal and Crowns etc, but I feel you are now taking the fun out of collecting. The number of coins being minted aimed at collectors(so not in circulation) is getting ridiculous and my enjoyable hobby is becoming too expensive and not much fun.
Hi Jo,
Whilst many collectors may be excited by the latest coin announcement, we appreciate that the theme may not appeal to all collectors.
Unfortunately Change Checker has no control over the coins that are issued (into circulation or as collector quality). This is a design made by the Treasury and The Royal Mint Advisory Committee. We share information with Change Checkers on any coin news that we believe they’d be interested in hearing.
We also share your frustration over less coins being issued into circulation as finding coins in your change is what Change Checker is all about. We were so pleased to see two 50ps enter circulation last year though, so here’s hoping we see some good commemoratives enter circulation this year too!
Best regards,
Alex
Very pleased to see that these are going to be on £5 coins rather than 50ps. The size allows for the designs to be far more intricate. For coins intended exclusively for collectors (unlike with the 30 odd non-circulating 50ps from the past couple of years), this should be the focus.
Hi James,
So glad you’re excited about these coins – so are we!
We can’t wait to see the designs as they’re set to be very intricate like you say 🙂
Thanks,
Alex
Yes pls
What date was this royal proclamation as I can’t find it ?
Hi Robert,
This was uploaded via the Privy Council: https://privycouncil.independent.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/2021-02-10-List-of-Business.pdf
Best,
Alex
what date are they going to be released and what characters do u reckon they would be
Hi Ethan,
There’s currently not been a confirmed date for issue but we’ll of course update you as soon as this becomes available. As for designs, there’s plenty of characters we could expect to see on the coins! It would be so hard to choose a favourite. Who would you like to see?
Best,
alex
Not gonna lie I’m pretty disappointed they’re on £5s. I was hoping possibly a new denomination like a 20p or maybe another 10p. But £5 coin collecting is the rich man collectors game lol.
Hi Lliam,
Whilst many collectors may be excited by the latest coin announcement, we appreciate that the deconimation may not appeal to all collectors. However, the space that the £5 coin has will certainly allow for a great exhibition of design! We can’t wait to see which characters feature 🙂
Royal Mint taking the mickey out of coin collectors again!
10p would have been much better, with a release of the Mr in 2021 and the Mrs in 2022 like the alphabet coins, make them circulated and bring a little fun back into coin collecting. But as £5 BUNC coins they will be what £10 each and with over 70 characters its gonna cost people a small fortune.
Very disapointing news they are £5 coins….im out!
Hi Dave,
Whilst many collectors may be excited by the latest coin announcement, we appreciate that the denomination of coin may not appeal to all collectors.

We share information with Change Checkers on any coin news that we believe they’d be interested in hearing.
However, the £5 specification will certainly allow for more space to showcase the design on these and we’re looking forward to seeing what characters feature.
