Can you find a connection between a polar bear, a moose and a hockey stick?

Exclusive Canadian 50 Cent

This stunning 6 coin set of 2023 dated collector’s edition coins includes the circulating Canadian coin denominations such as the dollar, 25 cent and of course, the 50 cent.

But, what’s really caught the eye of collectors is the fact the 50 cent has been issued with selective colour especially for this set.

Featured on the 50 cent is a patriotic red and white mosaic of icons, forming the most famous Canadian emblem of the all – the maple leaf. Although each icon differs vastly, they all serve as true representations of the country.

Just 30,000 sets available for collectors

Perhaps most interestingly, these coins are not set to enter circulation this year…

The reason why?

The coins in this set feature Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy on the obverse. The Royal Canadian Mint have announced that they will not issue any 2023 dated Queen Elizabeth II coins into circulation, meaning this set is a collector exclusive

In fact, just 30,000 sets have been issued worldwide, including a double-dated obverse to commemorate the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

As well as featuring Her Late Majesty’s portrait, these coins also include four pearls symbolising the four Queen Elizabeth II effigies that have graced Canadian coins.

The Lionesses’ journey so far

Since their first international match in 1972, the England women’s football team has gone from strength to strength.

The rising popularity of women’s football reached new heights in 2022 when England became European Champions. The dynamic squad, including the likes of Beth Mead, Fran Kirby and Ella Toone, took home the trophy after their unforgettable win against Germany.

This year, the Lionesses embark on their biggest competition to date, and to commemorate the event, the Pride of England £5 has been struck.

Three lions on the coin…

The 2023 UK Pride of England £5 proudly celebrates the team and their successes with a design by sculptor Norman Sillman. Three emblematic lions can be seen on the reverse design, representing the nation’s heraldic history.

The design may look familiar, and that’s because these heraldic lions also appeared on UK £1 coins in 1997. In fact, they date back to Richard the Lionheart who used three golden lions on a scarlet background as a powerful symbol of the English throne.

A must have for football fans

Demand for this coin is sure to be huge, as it not only appeals to coin collectors, but will also be highly sought after by British sport enthusiasts and football fans. The 2023 UK Pride of England £5 is the perfect keepsake for those who appreciate the rich history and cultural impact of women’s football.

Released as part of the Royal Mint’s 2012 Olympic 50p series, this coin was dedicated to football.

It was possibly the most publicised Olympic 50p, as it features the hotly debated offside rule in the form of a simple diagram. Designer Neil Wolfson chose the image to represent the sport and provoke discussion.

UK 50p celebrates 75 years of the NHS

2023 marks 75 years of our NHS, and to celebrate, a UK 50p has been issued.

This coin may look familiar, and that’s because it featured in the 2023 Annual Coin Set released earlier this year, but now you can finally own it individually!

A closer look

The 2023 UK NHS 50p represents the nation’s appreciation for NHS workers and services, with an original design by Alice Lediard. The reverse design features key words associated with the NHS such as dedication, hope, support and compassion. The words ‘National Health Service 75’ can also be seen highlighted in the centre of the coin.

What’s more, The Royal Mint are donating 100% of the profit made from these coins to NHS Charities Together. Over 230 NHS Charities across the UK provide additional support and resources for both staff and patients.

What better way to say thank you for the last 75 years or service.

The nation’s service

Since it was established in 1948, the National Health Service has played a pivotal role in the lives of the British public. It provides millions of people with vital care and medical services. This was especially apparent in recent years during the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Numismatic history of the NHS

This isn’t the first time the NHS has been celebrated on a UK coin…

1998 50th Anniversary of the NHS 50p

In 1998, a UK 50p was released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the NHS.

The reverse design by David Cornell shows a pair of hands cupping rays of light along with the inscription ‘NHS FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY’.

2018 A-Z ‘N’ NHS 10p

2018 ‘N’ NHS 10p

Almost 20 years later in 2018, the NHS 10p was released as part of the 26 coin A-Z 10p series.

The series celebrated all things British, so it’s no surprise that the NHS was chosen to represent the letter N. The reverse design shows a stethoscope wrapped around the letter N in the shape of a heart.

The A-Z 10ps have become some of the hardest UK circulation coins to find, with a mintage of only 304,000 per letter.

And that brings us to 2023 and the new 75th anniversary of the NHS 50p, which you can own in brilliant uncirculated quality.
