To celebrate the festive season The Royal Mint issued the very first Christmas £5 coin in 2017. The reverse design features a traditional Christmas tree with star and bauble decorations, designed by engraver Edwina Ellis who works and lives in Wales. A Christmas tree design was chosen as the Christmas tree is at the centre of traditional festive family celebrations.
