Coin Information:

After a review of the United Kingdom coinage in 1987, the Government announced its intention to issue a smaller 5p coin. On 27th June 1990 a reduced size version of the five pence coin was introduced. The older larger coins were withdrawn on 31st December 1990. The design remained unchanged. The reverse design of the Crowned Scottish Thistle was designed by Christopher Ironside. It features a royally crowned Scottish thistle with the words ‘Five Pence’ written above and the number ‘5’ below.
