Coin Information:
2019 marks 350 years since Samuel Pepys’ last diary entry on the 31st May 1669. Samuel Pepys was one of the most famous diarists in history. His diaries provide approximately 1 million words worth of valuable first-hand accounts of life in 17th Century London. It also provides historic eye-witness accounts of landmark events in British History, such as the Great Plague of London and the Great Fire of London. He kept his diary from 1660-1669, only stopping due to his failing eyesight. Designed by Gary Breeze, the reverse of the £2 features a hand using a feathered quill above a diary entry, with the words Samuel Pepys. The obverse features the fifth portrait of Her Majesty the Queen, designed by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark.
