This coin was issued in 2020, to celebrate one of Britain’s biggest music legends, Elton John. This is the first time that Elton John has featured on a UK coin and he becomes the second music star to be celebrated in The Royal Mint’s Music Legends series. Elton John is a superstar who has been delighting fans for more than half a century, and in 1998, he was knighted for his contribution to music. The reverse design of this £5 coin, by Bradley Morgan Johnson represents Elton John’s I’m Still Standing era. Speaking of the design, Johnson said, “I’m Still Standing was one of [his] favourite childhood pop tracks”. This coin has been officially approved by Sir Elton John himself.. The obverse design, features the 5th portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.
