The Platinum Jubilee 50p is in circulation! Here’s where to find them…
Today, the 2022 Platinum Jubilee 50p coins entered circulation! Issued to commemorate Her Majesty’s 70 year service to the throne, this brand new 50p is the very first circulating coin of 2022.
Getting one of the first coins put into circulation can be quite an achievement, especially with a coin as popular as this one.
It was confirmed that an initial 1.3 million would be released from Post Offices on the 7th February, but a further 1 million entered circulation ahead of the Platinum Jubilee weekend in June!
This takes the combined mintage to a total of 2.3 million. The Royal Mint have confirmed that there would be a maximum mintage of 5,000,070 if demand allowed.
Post Offices in Windsor and close to Sandringham were among the first branches to receive the new coin.
Whilst they’ve been initially released in areas that are significant to the Queen’s reign, these coins were gradually dispersed all over the country. And thanks to you, we’ve been able to plot this 50p’s journey around the UK!
We’ve been keeping track of where Change Checkers have found the 2022 Platinum Jubilee 50p coins and it seems as though it’s already travelled far and wide!
From Anglesey, to Tyrone, and Fife, this 50p has reached the far West, whilst also journeying as far as Kent and East Sussex in the East. Collectors in Scotland will also be pleased to see it’s reached several locations in central and North East regions.

The 1977 Diamond Jubilee Crown
The last time a Jubilee coin entered circulation, it was met with HUGE collector interest.
In 1977, Her Majesty celebrated 25 years on the throne – her Silver Jubilee and the first of her reign. The Royal Mint issued this commemorative crown.
The coin’s reverse design is focused upon the Coronation theme and features the Ampulla and anointing spoon from the Royal regalia surrounded by a heraldic floral pattern and the Crown.
The coin’s obverse takes inspiration from the 1953 Coronation Crown, showing a newly designed image of the Queen on horseback.
Unusually, this coin does not feature an edge inscription or date on its reverse, making it the only crown of its kind at the time of issue. It was also one of the last crowns to be issued with a face value of 25 pence (commemorative crowns issued after 1990 have a face value of £5), which makes it continually sought-after among collectors!
Roughly 37 million coins were produced at that time, and thousands were gifted to children across the UK as a memento of the occasion.
We’re so excited that Her Majesty’s 70 years of service on the throne is also being celebrated by the issue of a brand new 50p into circulation!
I’m sure demand for the new issue will be high as collectors rush to secure one for their 50p collection.

New 50p coin celebrating diversity in Britain enters circulation TODAY!
On Saturday 17th October, a surprise coin release made the headlines, as a brand new 50p was released to celebrate how diversity built Britain.
This new 50p is the first in a series to celebrate diversity across the whole of Britain and how our diverse culture has helped to shape the rich history and heritage of our nation.
Collectors will also be delighted to hear that 2.5 million Diversity in Britain 50ps are expected to enter circulation today, so now’s the time to get checking your change for this brand new release!
Designed by Dominque Evans, the new 50p features the words “DIVERSITY BUILT BRITAIN” against a network of interconnected triangles, symbolising the importance of connections between communities, and the strength of these connections cross the country.
Dominique Evans is one of the UK’s foremost coin designers and has reflected her own experience of diversity, growing up as a mixed-race woman, as inspiration for her design.
“When designing this coin, I began by thinking about the people who inspire me and what diversity has meant in my life. I believe that no matter where you are born, we all belong under the same sky and this was the starting point of the design,” Evans said.
Celebrating Diversity on UK Coins
Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Master of the Mint, unveiled the brand new UK 50p which celebrates British diversity and marks the profound contribution ethnic minority communities have made to our nation’s history.
He said, “For generations, ethnic minority groups have fought and died for this country we have built together; taught our children, nursed the sick, cared for the elderly; and through their enterprising spirit have started some of our most exciting and dynamic businesses, creating jobs and driving growth.”
The coin was commissioned earlier this year following discussions with the We Too Built Britain campaign and calls for BAME figures to appear on UK coins and banknotes.
